Yellow; Sunshine & Strength

,

Yellow, I have been thinking of colors lately and how the simplicity of a hue can impact your day. So, I offer the color yellow.

To me, yellow is the color of warmth, it’s a strong color. Actually, the yellow chakra represents the Solar Plexus, associated with personal power. This makes sense really as the sun is linked to health and the all-important vitamin D.

When I was a child, I begged to have my bedroom painted bright yellow. I had yellow dresses that were my favorite and throughout my adolescence my favorite color was always a quick answer of Yellow! Now older and wiser, and with a bit of knowledge of the energy of colors, I learned that sub-concisely, you surround yourself in the color of the energy you lack. I clearly lacked any personal power as a child and somehow surrounding myself in yellow was helping me to find my strength.

Yellow tapered off for me as a favorite, it did reappear some years later when I was feeling a bit powerless and not realizing the correlation to my energy, I painted a large body of work based on a yellow chair. That bright yellow chair is a reminder that color is there for you when you need it!

Now, I don’t feel powerless, I don’t use yellow in my home decor, nor do I wear it. But I see it almost every day in the Southern French town where I live.

The sun seems brighter here, stronger, the shades of yellow are never ending. I could do a post on only the classic buildings, the creamy sandstone blocks to the saturated golds and bright saffron renderings that make up the landscape viewed from my window. I could speak only of the creamy butter and cheese, so much butter and cheese! The palest gooey bisque colored brie to rich and deep flavored slices of cheese heaven. The wines, liquid sunlight. The fruit; lemons, apples and pears, it seems as if you can taste the color. Bouquets of Mimosa, sweet sun scented air filling your home in the bleakest days in winter, and sunflower fields stretching on forever in summer.

The strength and energy of yellow has permeated life here. It is easy to see and feel the embrace. I know it can’t just be me! Today, if you can, take a moment to feel the colors around you. It might be yellow, which for me is much more than a color, maybe you will feel it too!

Cheers, Michal

About Me

A Sketchy Life is about living. Seriously, life can be a little sketchy sometimes, but it can also be a beautiful sketchbook.

Hi, I’m Michal and I’m all about creative colorful living – what I paint, what I see, and what I feel. The beauty of home, patterns on a cloth, the pages of a book and paints on a canvas. I try to find the positives in each day, simple observations or grand ideas, these I can share with you.
